Adipose tissue is an integral part of the human body, and its quantity and distribution significantly affects the shape and appearance of the body. Adipose tissue in individuals with regular weight contains more or less uniform number of fat cells, while in pathologically obese individuals the number of fat cells can be several times higher.
An increased amount of body fat can cause two basic types of disorders: general obesity, which can eventually turn into a serious psychological and physical illness, and cellulite, which is usually a cosmetic problem and it occurs exclusively in women. There are predefined areas for fatty tissue accumulation on certain parts of the female body, such as the waist, thighs, knees, and the inner side of thighs, ankles, upper arms and chin. The fat distribution throughout the body is determined by two factors: genetic factors and nutrition.
Laser liposuction is a surgical procedure which selectively removes fat from parts of the body with excessive accumulation. Next, a cannula is inserted through a small incision (3-5 mm) in a skin, and the fat is sucked out with the vacuum-assisted laser. In this way, fatty cells are permanently removed from that part of the body.
It should be noted that liposuction is not a weight loss method, but rather a method of body shaping.
During the recovery period, swelling of the region that has been treated is inevitable, and is present for 7-10 days immediately after the surgery. A full recovery can be expected in 4 to 6 weeks. Thanks to the laser assisted liposuction, there are no skin bumps and the skin surface is well adapted. Bed rest and special compression garments are recommended during the first week after surgery. In the following three to four weeks usual daily activities are allowed, but no major physical activities are permitted. The results of liposuction are usually remarkable and durable, and they are visible after only three weeks to a month after removing the corset.
Laser liposuction is a very popular cosmetic surgery both for women and men.
However, liposuction alone is not available in case of general obesity when an excess adipose tissue is ten kilograms or more. However, this surgery can provide an incentive for the implementation of an appropriate diet that will significantly reduce the excess fat. After the diet it is possible to perform another surgery to remove “stubborn” fat deposits or cellulite in order to give the body a new, more beautiful shape.
